Most people today are struggling with the concern that how they are doing their lives is not really in sync with living their life’s purpose. But what are the basics of living on purpose? How will you be able to live a life that is aligned with your calling, authentic and put into action your purpose every single day?
Do you consider yourself a leader or are you a follower? Even if you prefer following other people’s examples and advice in certain areas of your life, it’s important to stay true to what you believe in and what you aspire for.
Following your own path is the only way to achieve real fulfillment, and you should never settle for the road someone else sets for you.
In this article, we’ll discuss 8 reasons why it’s so important you should always follow your own path and not someone else’s. This powerful article will provide you with everything you need to know to be a success, achieve your goal of a better life, and start living the life you want.
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson
1). Working a dull 9-to-5 job won’t help you achieve happiness.
Sure, we all need a paycheck. But if you are feeling stuck at your day job and don’t experience any passion for what you do, it might just be the time for a change. After all, you are spending half your day at work, and that’s no way to spend the precious time you have on this earth.
If your current career doesn’t make you happy, it’s time to take a good look at your life and ask yourself: What do I want to do with my time? What would make me feel excited when heading over to my job? If you can find a twist in your current employment and add joy to your life, great! Go for it!
If you don’t, it might be time to finally forge and pursue your own path and take action to actually do what you love instead of simply what puts bread on the table.
2). Feeling passionate about your work will actually make you far more productive!
If you are going through the motions, your productivity will decrease drastically. You won’t only be feeling miserable, but actually not achieving the goals you set for yourself at the office.
Life is too short to mindlessly go through your daily tasks and count the minutes until you get to go home.
Try to discover what you enjoy about your work, and if you are able to, change jobs! Follow your own path and make sure that you don’t find yourself stuck in a crossroads.
3). Always remember, your biggest project is your own self
Life isn’t about earning money and spending hours stuck in a dull office staring at the clock. Your enjoyment shouldn’t happen after you leave a meeting or your place of employment. You must always invest in yourself, as no one else is going to do it if you don’t. Avail yourself of the endless resources available on the internet and keep learning as much as you can.
You are building your own life and are the only one who can select those bricks that are added to that construction. So don’t settle for anything you don’t feel passionate about or anything that makes you feel miserable.
4). Following someone else’s path won’t lead you to happiness or success
Just as you have your own dreams, ambitions, and hopes for the future, everyone around you does as well.
The problem is that, even if those dreams might seem similar, no two people are alike. If you follow someone else’s plan hoping to arrive at the correct destination, you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
Being true to yourself is a fundamental key to achieving your own take on happiness and success. This might not match what others believe to be the end goal.
“You were put on this earth to achieve your greatest self, to live out your purpose, and to do it fearlessly.” – Steve Maraboli
5). When in doubt, consider what your older self would think of your decisions.
Always keep in mind that every decision and action you take will affect the future you’ll live in. So try and be kind to the future you. Where you are in 5 years depends on what you do today.
Try and picture what you want to be in 5, 10, 20 years. Then ask yourself… would that version of me approve of my decision? Would he advise I take a different road?
If you don’t follow your own path in life, you’ll be dealing with the consequences of your mistakes sooner or later, so always focus on your future self, and what you want for this version of you.
6). If you follow someone else’s road, you’ll never achieve your full potential
There is an endless amount of energy inside you. When you feel passionate and hungry for something, then you can keep pushing yourself further.
When you are following your own road, you’ll use your whole potential and grow as a person with each obstacle you overcome. If you choose to let others make the decisions for you, you might end up going through the motions and using only part of your energy and passion. This will lead you to give up on the full potential you have dormant in you, just waiting to be tapped!
7). Your loved ones deserve the best version of you
Being a follower in every aspect of your life keeps your true self from coming to the surface. You end up mimicking what others expect of you and settling for the road those who lead your life determined for you.
When you allow yourself to follow your own dreams and aspirations, you show yourself to the world proud and tall. Your family and friends love you for you and deserve to have the best version of their loved one.
8). You can make the world a better place
The world needs people who follow their dreams, their ambitions, and their own path. It’s the best way to ensure that everyone pushes forward, trying their very best to create a better world for themselves and those they care about.
When those around you are happy and fulfilled, this also encourages you to take chances and stop settling. In helping yourself, you help those that surround you, and bit by bit, help make a better society.
Key Takeaway
In reality, most people want all of the best things in life, but more often than not, they fail to do much for them to get started with their life’s actual journey. Simply put, many people are stuck behind their lives’ wheels, unmoving, and worse, there are some who just sit comfortably in the back seat as they let another person navigate their own lives.
“No matter what your history has been, your destiny is what you create today. What are you going to create?” – Steve Maraboli
You are the one who makes your own life, not anybody else, and for you to determine what it will look like in the future, you should start with today, because it is in the present that you would really be able to set what your life would be like 20 or even 50 years from now.
No one else steers the wheel of your life. At the end of the day, you are the captain of your own journey. You call the shots. You are the one who makes the decisions, not other people. It is you who decides which road to take, which path you should follow. It is you who picks from the cards that you are dealt with. It is you who creates your life.
This is your life, and you should never take the back seat on your own adventure. Life is filled with opportunities and challenges, and whatever decisions you make, it should be your own. Remember to always follow your own path, and you’ll soon discover you are indeed on the path to success!
To live life fully, you need to live a life that you created yourself. This way, there will be no regrets, no pointing of fingers, and no disappointments. This way, you can say that even though there might be failures along the way, at least, you did what you need to do and no one dictated you to do things that you do not want to do.
