“Dream Big”. You probably heard this quite multiple times in your life. It is something that you might listen to from your parents, your teachers and basically everyone around you. Although this is something that might be familiar to you, people often fail to understand what it truly means to dream big.
Yes, you probably know the basic concept. You should always dream big because it might take you far in life. But what does this mean exactly? Dreaming big to you might be entirely different for someone else. Not only that but can dreams be even measured?
“No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”—Lupita Nyong’o
To dream big is to actually avoid being ok with something or someone that it is just ok. This can be your job, your relationship, your career, your friends. Basically, any aspect of your life. When you heard to dream big, you must refer to demanding from life the best, and only the best.
Don’t be confused though, the best for you doesn’t mean it is going to be something perfect. Your career, the one that you have always dreamed of, will put in situations of stress too. Just like your 9-5 job. But it will be what brings you fulfilment in your life.
Therefore, those who want to pursue their dreams truly must always dream as big as possible. Here’s why:
1. You might change your limited beliefs
You probably have a series of limiting beliefs that you don’t even notice. Have you ever thought that you can’t do certain things even though you never actually tried any of them? Have you avoided doing things that you were kind of interest in doing before purely because you “believe” it isn’t for you?
Limiting beliefs hold you back and stop you from reaching your full potential. To break the cycle, one must always try to give that one extra step. Sometimes doing exactly what you never thought that you could do can be quite an empowering feeling. Not only that, but it also helps you with your confidence and achievements.
If you always believed that you wouldn’t be able to run a successful business, try it. Dream about it. Start to think more about this possibility. Try to learn more about the steps that you would need to take to make this happen. Removing these walls that you had put up yourself might help you realise that one you should be doing is entirely different from what you are doing now.
2. Getting out of your comfort zone
Being in the comfort zone is your game mode. Your brain is probably at this very moment, trying to find ways to keep you comfortable and safe. Therefore, it is no secret that people tend to stay in a very convenient place called the comfort zone.
Dreaming is not for cowards. It’s not for those who can’t even find the courage to leave their comfort zones behind. It’s not for people who aren’t brave enough to take that first step out the door. It’s not for people who don’t know the meaning of the word ‘sacrifice.’
However, the majority of the amazing things that life can offer are precisely outside of this zone. Once you have decided that you simply can’t do something because you are afraid or because it means a lot of work, you have automatically closed so many doors that could have led you to amazing places.
It is impossible to avoid stress and anxiety. These are natural reactions of our body that are made to protect us. Most of the times, we can’t change how they are. You most likely won’t hear a heavy object falling beside you and feel happy. No, you will feel scared. However, what you can do is not let this fear stop you from moving forward.
Only when you decide that you won’t let the fear hold you down, you will then be able to achieve greater things. People doing the same thing over and over won’t get any results. Keep that in mind.
3. Dream big for Personal Growth
The most successful people are the ones who took a lot of risks in life and grew from them. Yes, the comfort zone is friendly and safe. However, when you decide to dream big and expand your possibilities, you might also open an essential door, which is the self-development one.
If you never went through anything difficult and challenging, how would you learn? You will mostly just follow your own game mode. Maybe even going through life doing the bare minimum, without making any significant moves.
“So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable.”Christoper Reeve
Once you start to dream big and consider the possibility to do so much more, you will begin to learn so much more. This will give you experience and knowledge to grow as an individual and become someone wiser and smarter. You will probably end the day with a lot of fun stories as well. You will have lived and dreamed.
Even though dreaming big might sound like just implementing unrealistic thought to your head, consider this as a preview of what life can be. You don’t need to settle down. You don’t need to conform to the basics, you have no limits.
This line of thought and belief is a privilege of those who dare to dream very big and think about something better for themselves. Also, this means you can actually do a lot of great things to those around you, and to the world as well. You are making real changes. Because this is what life is ultimately all about.

Key Take Away
Dream big. Every day. It doesn’t matter if it might scare you, do it anyway. Although the comfort zone might be a safe place and something quite tempting, the rewards of dreaming big and wanting more for yourself are much more fascinating in the long run. Try to envision yourself living the life that you want.
Not the life that you think you will have or that you can have. But the one that you know you deserve. Because you do, and you shouldn’t settle for anything less than the absolute best for you and for everyone that has supported you along the way. The point is that as soon as you start working toward the goal you always dreamed of, life becomes a whole lot more exciting!
